Our story
Rooted in the West.
Drawn to the light.
Westlight began with two people, a pickup truck, and the belief that the hour before sunset is worth building a life around.
How it began
A kitchen table, a stack of sketches, and one stubborn hillside.
In 2024, a landscape architect and a stonemason took on their first commission together: a steep, sun-baked lot above Clear Creek that three contractors had already turned down. They spent a full season terracing it by hand. On the evening they set the last stone, the sun dropped behind the ridge and lit the whole hillside copper.
They named the studio for that hour. Westlight is young and deliberately small — two founders with decades in the trades between them, a hand-picked crew, and no appetite for growing faster than the work can bear. Walk the land first, design with restraint, build by hand as if the work will outlive us. Because it will.
We end every project the same way: standing beside the owners at golden hour, watching the light arrive on something built to hold it.

What guides us
Principles we plant deep.
- 01
Listen first
The best ideas on any site are already there. We start with your routines, your views, your light — and design to serve them.
- 02
Design with the land
Grade, sun, soil, and snow all get a vote. Working with them, not against them, is why our landscapes settle in instead of standing out.
- 03
Build once, build right
Proper bases, real stone, honest joinery. We'd rather do it slowly and never come back to fix it.
- 04
Leave it better
Every site leaves our hands healthier than we found it — more habitat, less water, richer soil, darker skies.
The studio
The people behind the work.
The design studio
Designers who turn site walks into master plans — sketching, modeling, and obsessing over sun angles so every space earns its place on your land.
The build crew
Masons and craftspeople who set stone the old way: proper bases, tight joints, no shortcuts. The crew that breaks ground is the crew that sweeps up on the last day.
The garden team
Plant people who choose for altitude, hail, and pollinators — then return with the seasons to keep the landscape maturing the way it was designed to.
Small by design — the people who sketch your landscape are the same ones who build it.
